post office 176

New Town | Hospitality + Community Arts

Working in collaboration with our wonderful client, artist Tanya La Paglia, we converted the 1891 former New Town Post office into a community arts hub – an art school, cafe restaurant, gallery and art studios.

"excellent example of an Edwardian post office... One of few Edwardian "public" buildings still in near original condition in Hobart." – Australian Heritage Database.

Changing the use of this beautiful heritage listed building was a complex and sensitive project. It involved intensive liaising with Heritage Tasmania, Hobart City Council and a vast range of expert consultants.

We succeeded in creating a great cafe space and a functional commercial kitchen with limited alteration to the original building.
